Informing Relatives of Neonatal Intensive Care Care Patients
The baby's relatives are informed by the Neonatal Intensive Care Responsible Physician about the baby's general condition and treatment when the patient first goes to bed.
The patient's relatives are informed about the patient's needs by the nurse, and information about the medical condition is provided by the physician.
Information about the patient's medical condition is not given to anyone other than the patient's guardian.
The information to be given to the relatives of the patient who died in the Intensive Care Unit is made by the patient's physician. When necessary, a security guard and/or another healthcare personnel accompanies the physician giving information.
When there is a sudden change in the patient's condition, the patient's relative is contacted by phone and information about his/her medical condition is given face to face by the physician.
Information will be provided every day and as needed during the baby's admission and between 11:00 and 12:00 on weekdays. The notification method may change depending on the intensity of the intensive care service and in case of emergency.
During weekends, nights and emergency admissions, the specialist physician on duty informs the baby's relatives.
There is no need for the baby's relatives to constantly wait in the patient waiting room. In unexpected situations regarding the baby, the baby's relative is called by phone and informed by the doctor.
Care is taken to ensure that the information is understandable by the baby's relative.
Relatives of the patient who want to get information outside the information hour must wait until the doctor is available.
Informing the baby's relative is done in the information room at the entrance of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or at the bedside.
Neonatal Intensive Care Baby Visiting Rules
The rules for the baby's relatives who are deemed appropriate to receive visitors by the Neonatal Intensive Care Responsible Physician and Nurse are stated below;
The visitor is warned not to touch the patient's equipment and devices connected to the patient.
No noise should be made during the visit.
Hospital property should not be damaged.
Smoking is legally prohibited in closed areas within the hospital building.
The privacy of mothers of other babies should be respected.
The person(s) accepted for the visit must meet any needs specified for the baby by the doctor and nurse.
Breastfeeding mothers can breastfeed their babies every 3 hours.
Mothers who do not breastfeed are allowed to come into contact with their babies twice a day. Kangaroo care is provided to suitable babies.
Fathers can see their baby once a day between 11:00 and 11:30.
Disposable shoe covers, bonnets and aprons are worn upon entry to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The baby's relative's hands are washed under the supervision of the staff and he/she ensures contact with the baby after using hand antiseptic.
Except for special circumstances, no visitors other than parents will be allowed.
Turn off your mobile phones during your visits.
Relatives of the baby must comply with general hospital rules.
